Mainframe Upgrades for New Hampshire Sakai Collaborative
A quick note to let you know that we've finished some of the server consolidation and cleanup that's been on-going for the past three weeks. We've been doing the maintenance between 1 and 5 AM, which is our normal maintenance period. This is in preparation to move everyone over to a mainframe system that will provide substantially better performance and reliability.
One of the problems that we (and many other Sakai hosting companies) have experienced over the past two years is the use of Intel server hardware and the limitations imposed by being on platforms that are different than the development and production platforms used at the various Universities. To that end we will be upgrading everyone to Mainframe hardware running mainframe database code and special Java optimization hardware over the course of the next month or so.
